- Nurse Olga is providing care for a young pregnant patient named Sally. Olga has been caring for Sally for a week and barely takes the time to talk to her. Sally does not see much of her family because she is a single mother. Most of the time Sally just sits in her bed staring at the wall wishing for someone to come keep her company. Olga rarely comes into Sally's room and does not make an effort to get to know Sally at all. Sally feels like she is a burden to Olga and that no one understands how she is feeling.
Calls for nursing:
- The calls for nursing based on this nursing situation are that Nurse Olga should be committed to her patient on a personal level. She should be taking the time to really get to know Sally and how she is feeling.
Responses that should have been done:
- The nurse should have practices the processes of "being with" and "doing for". The nurse should have been comforting and performing her job skillfully. The nurse should also have been emotionally present when talking to Sally.
